Fayetteville State Bowling Pulls Off the Three-Peat

MECHANICSVILLE, VA. (March 22, 2025) - The Broncos of Fayetteville State University repeated as the 2025 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) women’s bowling champions for the third consecutive season over Virginia Union University at Bowlero Bowling in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This was the Broncos’ sixth conference title and third consecutive championship victory. Virginia Union finished as the conference runners up for the second consecutive season, while Bowie State claimed third place honors, also for the second consecutive season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Day two started with round 2 featuring the winner's bracket of FSU, LC, VUU, and BSU, while ECSU, JCSU, SU, and VSU battled it out in the loser's bracket in hopes of bowling another round. Fayetteville State and Virginia Union kicked off the day with 4-0 sweeps over Livingstone and Bowie State, respectively, to advance to the next round. In the loser’s bracket, Shaw and Virginia State advanced to the next round after hard-fought matches against JCSU and ECSU, respectively.

In the third round, the Broncos faced off with the Panthers for the first of two meetings and sent them to the loser’s bracket with a 4-1 victory. In the same round, Shaw sent LC packing, while Bowie State ended VSU’s tournament hopes as they both advanced to the loser’s bracket quarterfinals.

Fayetteville State had already clinched a spot in the championship final and awaited their opponent, as Bowie State took down Shaw and faced off with Virginia Union for the second and final spot in the championship final. The Bulldogs were unable to keep up with the Panthers, as VUU would come out on top and secure a rematch with Fayetteville State in the final.

The Broncos seemed to perform at their best on the biggest stage, as they went without an open frame for the first two games, connecting on 12 strikes and roughly 10 spares in that span alone. They’d continue to bowl at a strong rate, cruising to a 4-0 victory to claim the championship victory.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
After bowling a great championship weekend, five deserving bowlers were named to the 2025 CIAA All-Tournament Team. For their efforts in helping the team secure a third consecutive title, Nariah Joyner and Paige Rockwell of Fayetteville State were named the tournament’s Co-MVPs.

Alexis Jackson, Virginia Union
