Charlotte, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) is delighted to announce the 2024-25 Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year. These exceptional athletes have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and sportsmanship throughout the season.
As voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association, the CIAA proudly recognizes the following individuals as the best of the best in CIAA Indoor Track and Field. These premier student-athletes were recognized during Day 1 of the 2024-25 CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
2024-25 CIAA Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year
Men’s Track Athlete of the Year: Jonathan Flemister, Claflin University
Men’s Field Athlete of the Year: Zachary Jones, Virginia Union University
Women’s Track Athlete of the Year: Janya Moore, Fayetteville State University
Women’s Field Athlete of the Year: Yassine Kamara, Bowie State University
Jonathan Flemister has had a great season for the Panthers. He established himself as the top sprinter in the CIAA. He is currently ranked first in the conference in the 60m dash with a 6.80. The time is an NCAA Division II qualifying time. He is also ranked second in the CIAA in the men's 200m dash with another NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 21.30, the 12th best time in the nation. He's also a member of the Panthers' 4x400m relay team that leads the CIAA and is ranked 20th nationally.
Zachary Jones
• Ranked 1st in the conference.
• Achieved a shot put mark of 16.73m at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Virginia.
• Currently ranked No. 1 in the conference and No. 25 in Division II.
Janya Moore has consistently demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the season. She is the top-ranked 200-meter runner in the Atlantic Region with a time of 24.98 and ranks 8th in the 400 meters (57.73 seconds).
Her remarkable performances include a 7.91-second finish in the 60 meters, a 24.98-second finish in the 200 meters (1st place at the JDL Early Bird Invitational), a 57.73-second finish in the 400 meters, and a 1:44.87 finish in the 600 meters. Notable achievements include a 2nd place finish in the 400 meters at the Camel City Sprints, a 1st place finish in the 200 meters at the Mondo College Invitational, and multiple top finishes in the 4x400 meter relays. Janya's consistent top finishes and her ability to excel in multiple events make her a standout athlete. Her dedication to her sport and her team is evident in her performances and her commitment to continuous improvement.

Yassine Kamara has won the CIAA Field Athlete of the Week three times this season. She has won four first-place finishes in the shot put for indoor season, including a personal best 14.62m most recently at the Marlin Invitational.
