FAYETTEVILLE, NC (October 4, 2025) – Day two of the 2025 CIAA Volleyball Round Up delivered another full slate of competitive matchups at Fayetteville State University as programs continued to find their rhythm early in conference play.
Through two days of competition, Bluefield State and Shaw remain unbeaten atop their respective divisions, while Fayetteville State and Virginia State continue to close in as strong contenders heading into the next stretch of CIAA action.

Day Two Highlights
- Bluefield State (2–0 DIV, 4–0 CONF) remained perfect in both divisional and conference play after a pair of straight-set wins. The Big Blue have not dropped a set this weekend and continue to lead the Northern Division behind balanced offensive execution and depth across the rotation.
- Virginia State (2–0 DIV, 4–1 CONF) sits close behind after a dominant 3–0 win over Johnson C. Smith before falling in a hard-fought five-set match to Winston-Salem State. The Trojans’ strong start keeps them among the Northern Division frontrunners.
- Bowie State (1–1 DIV, 3–2 CONF) added a sweep over Livingstone to stay in the upper half of the Northern standings, while Virginia Union (1–1 DIV, 2–3 CONF) looks to rebound after setbacks against Shaw and Fayetteville State.
- In the Southern Division, Shaw (2–0 DIV, 3–0 CONF) continued its undefeated run, sweeping Virginia Union to remain perfect on the season and extend its winning streak to four.
- Fayetteville State (1–1 DIV, 4–1 CONF) defended home court once again, collecting sweeps over Lincoln (PA) and Virginia Union to close the weekend 3–0 at the Round Up and 8–4 overall.
- Winston-Salem State (1–1 DIV, 3–2 CONF) showed resilience, bouncing back from a morning loss to Bluefield State to defeat Virginia State in five sets, improving its standing in the Southern Division.
- Livingstone (1–1 DIV, 2–3 CONF), Claflin (1–1 DIV, 1–4 CONF), and Johnson C. Smith (0–2 DIV, 0–3 CONF) round out the division standings, each looking to reset heading into the next conference weekend.
Looking Ahead
The next CIAA Volleyball Round Up is set for October 18–19 at Bowie State University, where the Bulldogs will host another weekend of CIAA volleyball action. With divisional standings tightening and postseason implications beginning to take shape, teams will look to carry momentum into the second half of the season. Fans are also encouraged to mark their calendars for the 2025 CIAA Volleyball Championship, taking place November 20–23 also at Bowie State University. The event is free to attend and will feature the top programs from each division competing for the conference title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
