EMPORIA, Kan. --- Bowie State thrower and two-time defending Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) discus champion
Yassine Kamara threw a day best of 44.96m (146-6) for an 11th place finish overall at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship Friday afternoon at Francis G. Welch Stadium.
Kamara's effort earned her a Second Team All-America honor in the discus event as she was three points shy of a top-10 finish in her national debut. The Hyattsville, Md., native concludes her 2024 campaign with a CIAA championship in the discus and a pair of Atlantic Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) under the leadership of Rodric Johnson.
Kamara's appearance at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships was the first time a Bowie State athlete earned a national spot since 2010 in the discus event and the first overall since 2019 to compete in outdoor or indoor DII nationals.
