Four Matches Highlights 2024 CIAA Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The 2024 CIAA Volleyball season was an exciting one, however only eight teams can emerge with a spot in the postseason. The CIAA volleyball championship quarterfinals kick off Tuesday, November 16 with all four matches commencing at 6:00 P.M. Each match will occur on the higher seed's home court, with the winners advancing to the conference semifinals, taking place Friday, November 23 in Bowie, Maryland.

(1S) Shaw vs. (4N) Bowie State 
The reigning champions picked up right where they left off, sporting a 27-4 record in 2024 including 14-1 in the conference and a perfect 8-0 in the division. Bowie State enjoyed a nice season that saw them win four more matches than in 2023 and reaching the post season for the first time since 2019. The two teams faced off during the first CIAA Roundup, with the Bears pulling out a 3-1 victory (25-18, 25-27, 25-14, 25-22). 
 
(1N) Virginia State vs. (4S) Livingstone 
Virginia State had one of the best turnaounds in 2024, as they improved from last year's 10-16 record by winning seven more matches to get to 15-7 and claim the top spot in the northern division with a 9-1 record. Livingstone snuck into the postseason for the first time since 2015 after winning their final match of the regular season and claim the final spot in the southern division. The Trojans took down the Blue Bears in straight sets to kick off the second CIAA Roundup earlier this season (25-12, 25-12, 25-14).  
 
(2S) Fayetteville State vs. (3N) Elizabeth City State 
Fayetteville State were a force to be reckoned with all season, winning 16 of their 20 matches and claiming the second spot in the southern division. Elizabeth City State fell to Shaw in last year's champonship and return to the postseason in 2024 as the three seed. The Broncos matched up against the Vikings during the first CIAA Round-up and defeated ECSU, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16). 

(2N) Bluefield State vs. (3S) Winston-Salem State
Bluefield State posted a 15-17 record for a second-consecutive season and will head to Winston-Salem State who repeated their win total as well with 14, as they get set to host the Big Blue. The match is set to be an exciting one, as Bluefield State edged out a nail-biting five-set victory via a reverse sweep (20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-7).
