ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the CIAA tournament after defeating Elizabeth City in the quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.
The Rams defeated the Broncos with a final score of 4-2.
After falling 2–1 in doubles, the Rams went on to dominate singles to claim the victory.
The Rams went into the singles match with a go-head point awarded to
Jericka Brodie.
Shajada Barrett took on Juelle St. Clair and came up on top, 8-4.
Anthonia Smith was also victorious taking on Alexius Neathery and also finishing with a final score of 8-4. The Rams needed only one more win to claim the match, and it came from
Angel Bowden who defeated Naomi Joseph, 8-4.
WSSU will take on Shaw University in the semifinals round on Friday, April 29 at the VSU Tennis Courts located in Ettrick, Virginia. The match time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Both the semifinal and championship rounds will be hosted at the VSU Tennis Complex on the campus of Virginia State University. The tournament is free and open to the public.
