About CIAA Esports
CIAA Esports was established to create conference-controlled esports programming, including but not limited to league and postseason play, tournaments and invitationals, while leveraging strategic partnerships to create resources and opportunities for its membership within the esports and gaming industry.
CIAA C.A.R.E.S. Esports Initiative
The CIAA C.A.R.E.S. Esports initiative is a program highlighted by five core principles that will guide the conference’s efforts to enhance resources and opportunities within the esports and gaming for its membership and students. These five pillars include
Competition,
Access,
Relationships,
Education, and
Scholarship.
Competition – Champion a healthy, competitive environment among membership while identifying opportunities to compete at the highest levels within the collegiate esports landscape.
Access – Create pathways into untapped and underutilized segments of esports and gaming as well as other STEAM programs.
Relationships – Build partnerships and alliances with entities that advocate for minority growth within esports and gaming at various levels.
Education – Provide tools that inspire learning and help increase knowledge about the esports and gaming industry
Scholarship – Generate support through competition and strategic programs that assists membership in funding academic opportunities for current and future students.

Past CIAA Esports Programming
HBCU Esports League powered by Cxmmunity
HBCU Esports League powered by Cxmmunity is currently offering an NBA 2K and Madden Leagues for students in fall 2021. Seasons run through spring 2022 with games being broadcast weekly on the Cxmmunity Twitch channel.

The Yard: HBCU Esports Alliance (HEA)
The Yard: HBCU Esports Alliance (HEA) offered spring leagues in multiple titles, including NBA 2K21, Madden 21, Rocket League, PGA 2K21, and NASCAR Heat. Madden, NBA 2K, and Rocket League broadcasts were streamed every Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday on the HEA Twitch channel with a recap show every Saturday. Participants were issued over $30,000 in scholarships. More updates coming soon.

PlayVS College Fall Season 2021
PlayVS College is currently offering leagues in various game titles, including Madden 21, Fortnite, Smite, FIFA 21, and Overwatch. Leagues will award over $100,000 in scholarships and prizing.

Johnson C. Smith University Esports & Gaming Certificate Program
The first at an Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Johnson C. Smith University offers an 8-week Esports and Gaming Management (ESG) Certificate program that prepares professionals to meet the demands of the Esports and Gaming industries, a multi-billion dollar enterprise, by assisting them in developing the skills necessary to plan, manage, and execute Esports and gaming events. Through this program, professionals will be exposed to the myriad of facets involved in the operation and management of the Esports and gaming industries.

CIAA represented at the Southern University Law Center Esports Summit
The CIAA was well respected at the inaugural Southern University Law Center (SULC) Esports Summit on April 10 with representatives from both the conference office and member institutions serving on industry panels. Those serving on panels included CIAA Assistant Commissioner Ben Baxter as well as Johnson C. Smith University professors and esports advisors Dr. Bernadette Lawson-Williams and John Cash.
