SANFORD, N.C. — Bluefield State held off Winston-Salem State and host Fayetteville State to win the CIAA Southern Division Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Quail Ridge Country Club. The Big Blue finished with a three-round total of +48, using steady play across all three rounds to separate from the field and secure the division title.

Winston-Salem State finished second at +53, and Fayetteville State placed third at +55 as shifting winds and firm, fast greens sent scores upward during the final round.

Bluefield State’s victory was anchored by the tournament’s co-medalists, Freddie Timmis and Michael Wilson, who tied for first at +4. Timmis posted rounds of 76, 71, and 73, while Wilson opened with a 68 before closing with 73 and 79. Virginia State’s Christopher Baguma finished one shot back at +5 after rounds of 71, 74, and 76.

Livingstone’s Michael Alunga tied for fourth at +8, and Bluefield State’s Eman Lim placed fifth at +9, rounding out the top five.

All-Tournament Team

The top five finishers were named to the CIAA Southern Division All-Tournament Team:

Fayetteville State placed three golfers in the top 20. Sutton Dreier led the Broncos with a seventh-place finish at +10, followed by Andrew McCarver in a tie for 10th at +13 and Allan Terrazas, who was 12th at +14. Landon Cabingas finished tied for 23rd at +19, and individual competitor Patricio Ramirez tied for 16th at +17.

Winston-Salem State had two players inside the top 10 with Cameron Lutterloh tying for eighth at +12 and Tanner Frye tying for 10th at +13. Virginia Union, Bowie State, Johnson C. Smith, Elizabeth City State and Livingstone rounded out the field while navigating one of the tougher Quail Ridge setups in recent CIAA play.

With divisional points on the line, the Southern Division standings tighten as the conference shifts toward the next stop on the schedule. The CIAA Northern Division Tournament will be held March 30–31 at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, West Virginia, with the first-round set for Monday at 8 a.m. as programs continue building toward the 2026 CIAA Championship.
