Baltimore, MD. - Day two of the 2025 Food Lion CIAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament saw 12 teams take the court once again for a flurry of exciting basketball matchups.
(Men's) Johnson C. Smith def. Elizabeth City State, 83-75
Johnson C. Smith and Elizabeth City State University went head-to-head to commence day two of the tournament and had an exciting back-and-forth matchup that ultimately saw the Golden Bulls come out on top, 83-75. The Vikings were hot out the gate and took a two-point lead heading into the break, but efficient shooting combined with a strong second-half defensive performance propelled JCSU to the next round of the tournament, as they face off with Bluefield State University tomorrow at 2:00 P.M.
(Men's) Lincoln (PA) def. Winston-Salem State, 58-42
The reigning champions took the court for the first time this week and took on Winston-Salem State, using a hot start to propel them to a 58-42 victory. Lincoln (PA) led by as much as 13 early and saw the lead dwindle down to six thanks to a strong second-half performance by the Rams, however they were unable to gain momentum to knot the game and would fall to the Lions. Lincoln (PA) will now face off with Claflin tomorrow night at 8:00 P.M.
(Women's) Virginia State def. Lincoln (PA), 67-59
Virginia State University secured a 67-59 victory over Lincoln University (PA) on February 26, 2025, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament. The Trojans will face the winner Livingstone and Bowie State on Thursday, February 27, at 6:00 PM.
(Women's) Fayetteville State def. Bluefield State, 72-54
Fayetteville State came out on top against Bluefield State in a 72-54 victory Wednesday afternoon. The Broncos led 18-9 after the first quarter and extended their lead with a strong 23-point third quarter. With the win, Fayetteville State advances to the semifinal round and will play the winner of #3 Claflin vs #2 Virginia Union.
(Men’s) Virginia State def. Bowie State, 78-72
Despite the Bowie State Bulldogs pulling within two with 14 seconds left to play, the Virginia State Trojans went 4-4 at the line to secure the 78-72 victory. Bulldog Elijah Davis led all players with 25 points and Justin Morrisey adding 18 points and eight rebounds. The Trojans were led by Jacob Cooper with 15 points. The Trojans will face the winner of Claflin vs. Lincoln (PA) in the semifinals Friday, February 28th at 2 p.m.
(Men's) Fayetteville State def. Virginia Union, 69-66
Fayetteville State and Virginia Union faced off for an exciting nail-biting finish to conclude day two of the tournament. Virginia Union missed on some last-second free throws which would've tied the game, as the Broncos would come out on top, 69-66. FSU advances to the semifinals and will take on the winner of Bluefield State and Johnson C. Smith on Friday, February 28 at 8:00 P.M.
