The Virginia Union University Golf Team has received the National Academic Award Recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America, it was announced on Friday, July 23. This recognition is for golf teams with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the Academic Year 2020-21.
VUU became the first HBCU National Champions to be awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
There were 13 Division II teams that were recognized as having GPAs of 3.5 or higher and VUU's Golf Team finished with a team GPA was 3.64. Virginia Union finished sixth as an Academic National Champions and #1 amongst the HBCU's. This is the team's second year being recognized since becoming members of the Golf Coaches of America Association.
"Even during the pandemic, their academic success was not impeded," said VUU Head Golf Coach
E. Lee Coble. "Again, I continue to be proud of the many accomplishments this team has had on the course and in the classroom. They truly exemplify the term 'Student-Athlete."
