Fayetteville State to represent CIAA in Finals of Collegiate Esports Invitational Fortnite Tournament
CHARLOTTE – A pair of students from Fayetteville State University will represent the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in the finals of the Collegiate Esports Invitational tournament featuring Fortnite.
The FSU team of Jazzwan Hanson and Darnell Walker earned the nod after being named CIAA champion due to forfeit during the conference qualifiers, which took place May 21-23. As conference champion, team FSU will receive $500 in prize money and the opportunity to compete for the $10,000 grand prize.
Hanson and Walker will be one of eight teams representing different athletic conferences from across the country, but will be the lone students from a Division II and HBCU institution. They will take on a team from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, who will be representing the American East Conference, in the opening round of the finals on May 27.
Matches from the finals will be streamed live on the official Collegiate Esports Invitational Twitch channel (

Being powered by Van Wagner and the Gaming Community Network, the Fortnite competition is the first in a series of tournaments being put on through the Collegiate Esports Invitational that will feature several different game titles. Van Wagner is the exclusive multimedia rights partner for each of the NCAA conferences participating in the series.
