The CIAA Student-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, kicks off its spring edition with a feature on Travon Willis of Virginia Union University. Willis is a junior men’s golf student-athlete from Indian Trail, NC. He is a physics/engineering major that carries a 3.75 grade point average.

Men’s Golf – Named 2019 CIAA Co-Rookie of the Year
Men’s Golf – Selected to the 2019 All-CIAA Golf Team
Men’s Golf – A member of the VUU team that won the 2019 CIAA Championship

“I was born in Derry, New Hampshire and I’m a hard worker.”
Your goals or plans after finishing school:
“I plan on attending graduate school and remain in the physics/engineering field.”
Your greatest inspiration:
“My greatest inspiration was winning the [2019] CIAA golf championship just like my father, who won three CIAA golf titles as a student-athlete at Livingstone College.”
What do you love the most about being a student-athlete your school?
“I love the historical and cultural experience at an HBCU. It’s real feeling of family at VUU.”
