CHARLOTTE, NC - The 2021 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Championship continued this evening with semi-final action taking place on the campus of Bowie State University. Here's a recap from tonight's matches:
2021 CIAA Volleyball Championship - Semi-finals
Game 5: #2 Fayetteville State defeats #3 Elizabeth City State, 3-0
BOWIE, MD - No. 2 seed Fayetteville State University earned a 3-0 sweep over the no. 3 seed Vikings of Elizabeth City State University in the first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) women’s volleyball semifinal match on Saturday afternoon at A.C. Jordan Arena on the campus of Bowie State University in Bowie, MD.
The Broncos (22-6) claimed the victory in straight sets by the scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-19.
Da’Nesha Miller paced FSU with a double-double that included a team-high 12 kills and 15 assists while Casandra Watson added 11 kills and seven digs. Jaida Bynum contributed a team-high 19 assists as Jasmine Jacinto recorded a match-high 18 stops.
ECSU was led by Aasia McNeill with a match-high 13 kills and eight digs while Elizabeth Kellum registered a match-high 24 assists. The Vikings conclude their season 27-6 overall.
Sunday’s tilt will mark the second consecutive CIAA championship match for the Broncos, the defending CIAA champions. First serve in the 2021 CIAA Women’s Volleyball championship match is at 12 noon at BSU’s A.C. Jordan Arena.

Game 6: #1 Shaw defeats # 5 Claflin, 3-1
BOWIE, MD - No. 1 seed Shaw University defeated no. 5 seed Claflin University in four sets (3-1) of the second semifinal of the CIAA Volleyball Championship at A.C. Jordan Arena on the campus of Bowie State University.
Mallory Brown led Shaw with a match-high 11 kills and added five digs while Paige Worden posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs and Kamille Patrick also had 10 kills, leading the Bears with 18 points. Breelyn Clark delivered a match-high 38 assists and Kaylin Evans had 19 digs on defense.
Simone Newell led CU with nine kills and 15 digs while Taneja Robinson led the Panthers with 10 points. Monae Rowser had a team-high 17 assists.

Fayetteville State and Shaw will face each other in the championship match on Sunday, November 21 at 12 p.m. for the second consecutive season. Matches will be played at A.C.
