CIAA Student-Athlete Spotlight: Tamia Williams - Johnson C. Smith University

The CIAA Student-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, continues this week with a feature on Tamia Williams of Johnson C. Smith University. Williams is a senior women’s bowling student-athlete from Durham, NC. She is social work major that maintains a 3.3 grade point average.

Athletic Accomplishments:

Women’s Bowling – Bowling representative for SAAC at JCSU the last three years; Secretary during the 2020-21 academic year

Women’s Bowling – CIAA Bowling representative for the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) during the 2020-21 academic year

Women’s Bowling – JCSU Walk of Champions honoree (3.0 or higher for four semesters)


Something unique most people wouldn’t know about you:

“I’m not an artistic person, I don’t have any drawing skills (I can’t even draw stick figures), but I am very creative when it comes to visuals.”

Your goals or plans after finishing school:

“My plans after I finish undergrad are to further my education in graduate school for an MSW (master’s in social work) at an advanced standing program and become an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). My career goals are to work with youth in a community center, schools, in sports or private practice.”

Your greatest inspiration:

My greatest inspirations are my mom and grandma because they always taught me to never settle for less.”

What do you love the most about being a student-athlete your school?

“What I enjoy most about being a student-athlete is positively representing JCSU. Also, I enjoy developing skills such as commitment, teamwork, learning how to uplift others, and staying positive when stressed.”
