BROOKFIELD, IL - The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2019
Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two team yesterday with 24 players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) making the team.
The CIAA had 11 first-team, eight second-team, and five third-team selections led by Virginia Union place kicker Jefferson Souza, who was named Super Region Two Special Teams Player of the Year as well as being a first team selection on offense.
Souza, a Deerfield Beach, FL native, went 15-for-16 on field goal attempts with a long of 49 yards in nine games during the 2019 season. The junior All-CIAA selection led the nation in field goal percentage at 93.8% while his 1.67 field goals made per game ranked fifth nationally. Souza also posted a 35.3 punting average on 36 punts with 11 of those being placed inside the 20. He was also named CIAA Special Teams Player of the Year in 2019.
Joining Souza on the first team are running back Stevie Green (Fayetteville State), wide receivers Dajuan Greene (Elizabeth City State) and Charles Hall (Virginia Union), tight end Dushon David (Bowie State), all-purpose back Deshaun Wethington (Chowan), offensive lineman Donald Boone (Chowan), defensive linemen Keyshawn James (Fayetteville State) and Josh Pryor (Bowie State), linebacker Durrell Nash (Saint Augustine’s), and defensive back Demetri Morsell (Bowie State).
Second team selections include running back Emanuel Wilson (Johnson C. Smith), tight end Kevonta Moses (Shaw), offensive linemen Greg Brooks (Fayetteville State), Keanu Gonzalez (Shaw), and Frank Ball (Virginia State), defensive linemen Ziah Gibson (Livingstone) and Solomon Bassett (Lincoln (PA)), along with defensive back Daryus Skinner (Winston-Salem State).
Rounding out the selections from the CIAA on the third team were quarterback Ja’rome Johnson (Bowie State), all-purpose back Sidney Gibbs (Shaw), and offensive lineman Kion Smith (Fayetteville State) along with linebackers Kalen Allen and Ta’Shaun Taylor (Winston-Salem State).
All 12 CIAA football member schools were represented on this year’s team. Bowie State and Fayetteville State led the conference with four selections apiece followed by Shaw and Winston-Salem State with three selections each.
The
Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published
Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2019 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be selected.
