No. 24 Virginia State Claim CIAA Northern Division Matchup Victory Over Lincoln University,85-75

ETTRICK, Va. (February 2, 2019)–The Virginia State University men's basketball team (18-3, 10-0 CIAA, 5-0 Northern Division) claimed an 81-79 victory over the Lions of Lincoln University tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
 
Jalen Jackson finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shots from the field to go along with five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Cedric Wiggins posted a 17-point performance, to go with seven rebound, two assists and one steal. Cyonte Melvin and Antwan Miles finished the contest with contributing 10 points wach. Brandon Holley and William Vedder contributed eight points each respectively.
 
The Trojans forced 11 Lincoln turnovers in the contest. Virginia State led by as many as 18 in the first half. The score was 47-32 at the half, but Lincoln (12-10, 5-6 CIAA) continued to fight by adding 38 points in the second half to cut the lead to four with 9:52 to go. From there, the Trojans continued to add points to the board ending the game 85-75.
 
Cameron Campbell paced Lincoln with 19 points on 6-of-19 shooting, while Deaquan Williams added 14 points. The Trojans started the game strong securing a 12-6 lead over the Lions.
 
The Trojans collected a 47-32 halftime advantage, with nine different Trojans scoring in the opening period.
 
Despite their turnovers, the Lions managed to stay in the game in the second half due to their free throw shooting, as they connected on 10 of 16 shots in the second half. The Lions finished the contest shooting 62.5 percent from the free throw line. The Trojans finished the contest shooting 65.2 percent from the free throw line.
 
FIRST HALF DOMINANCE: Virginia State has scored 25 or more points in the first half of majority of the games this season, scoring 47 in the first half tonight.
 
POINTS OFF TURNOVERS: The Trojans made it another game this season with 15 or more points off turnovers, scoring 18 points off the Lions' 13 turnovers.
 
UP NEXT: The Trojans will next host the Bears of Shaw University in a CIAA Conference Matchup on Wednesday, February 6. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
