The Lincoln University men's basketball team's second half rally fell short as they dropped their seventh consecutive conference road contest, losing to nationally ranked Virginia State University 85-75 Saturday afternoon at the VSU enter in Ettrick, Virginia.
The Lions fall to 12-11 overall and 5-7 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. The Trojans improve to 19-3 overall and 11-0 in conference play.

The Trojans jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first 6:30 of the game before Lincoln got their offense back on track with a 13-4 spurt to pull within four 25-21. Williams, Terrence Gibbons and Campbell topped off the run with three-point field goals.
Lincoln's run came to an abrupt halt following a timeout as VSU counted with 13 straight points to take a 38-21 lead with 6:22 left in the half. The Lions cut the margin to 12 before VSU's Antwan Miles sank a long three pointer that just beat the buzzer to make the score 47-32 at halftime.
VSU's lead expanded to 19, 54-35 three minutes into the second half before the Lions started to chip away at the deficit, cutting the Trojan lead to nine with a 14-4 run over the next two minutes, trailing 58-49 at the 15:37 mark. The Trojans quickly pushed the lead back up to double digits and the Lions were unable to bring it back into single digit range until the 3:18 mark when Blue's layup made the score 83-74 which would be as close as Lincoln would get.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 9, 2019 when they host Bowie State University at Manuel Rivero Hall. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
