Claflin Knocks Off 14th-Ranked Morehouse 2/13/2019 10:38:00 PM Morris Wright by Panthers Sports Information Department Atlanta, Ga. – The Claflin University Panthers pulled off big upset on Wednesday (Feb. 13), knocking off 14th-ranked Morehouse College Maroon Tigers 72-61 for their fifth straight win. The win evened Claflin season record at 12-12 and provided the Panthers a 2-1 record in three games against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) teams this season. Claflin spilt a pair of games with Tuskegee University. In defeating Morehouse for the third time in the last four outings, the Panthers outscored the Maroon Tigers 15-4 in the final minutes for their fifth road win of the season. Jaimik Moore led three Claflin players in double-figures with a career-high 19 points, 17 coming in the second-half, on 5-of-9 from the floor and 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Moore previous best came against Shaw University of 17 points earlier in the season. Austin Lawton pushed his consecutive game in double-digits to seven with 17 points on 6-of-10 from the field and 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. Triston Thompson added eight points for the Panthers. For the game, the Panthers shot a sizzling 90.9 percent (20-for-22) from the free throw line. Morehouse, now 18-4, was led by Roberts Andrews with a game-high 22 points. With the contest tied at 57-all with 4:36 left, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run over a 3:52 minutes span in building a 67-59. Claflin finished the game by scoring five of the game's last seven points in posting the 11-point victory. The Maroon Tigers, which saw their three-game winning streak ended, missed several key easy baskets and free throws down the stretch. Morehouse shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field compared to Claflin 51.0 (25-of-49) from the floor. The Panthers led 30-23 at the half. Claflin will return to the confines of Tullis Arena to end the regular-season against Livingston College (Feb. 18) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest for Greek Night followed by rival Benedict College (Feb. 21) for Senior Day.
