SALISBURY, N.C. – The No. 8 Virginia State University women's basketball team (8-5, 2-2 CIAA) shot 54.3 percent from the floor to claim their second CIAA win of the season at Livingstone College (3-12, 0-5 CIAA) on Saturday afternoon, 85-72.
Senior Chrisanna Green went eight of nine from behind the arc and nine-of-15 from the line to lead Virginia State with her 11
thdouble-double of the season scoring with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Yazmen Hannah managed 13 points and five rebounds. Shayln Washington also found her way into double digits with 13 points. Round out the Trojans double digit scoring was Ebony Reynolds who finished with 11 points, respectively.
The Lady Blue Bears were led by Daisa Harris who posted a game-high 30 points and five rebounds. Darra Walker was their second highest scorer with 19 points, while Asia Green added eight.
How It Happened
Virginia State opened the game with a 27-19 lead over Livingstone College to close out the first quarter where Senior Chrisanna Green collected her 1,000th career point. The Trojans continued to put points on the board outscoring the Lady Blue Bears in the second, 14-11, as Livingstone trailed 41-30 at the half.
Taylor Hayes secured the opening basket to start the third quarter to give the Trojans a 60-48 advantage. Hannah secured a three-pointer to grow the Trojans lead 56-47 with 2:49 left in the quarter. Virginia State then added its final points at the free throw line by Tajah Clark collecting two to bring the score 62-48 to end the period.
Virginia State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving them a 85-72 victory. Shayln Washington collected the final basket to close out the scoring for the Trojans.
