Broncos Snap Lions Eight-Game Win Streak

Fayetteville State University snapped the Lincoln University men's basketball team's eight game winning streak Thursday night with a 77-73 victory over the Lions at the Felton J. Capel Arena in Fayetteville, north Carolina.

The loss was Lincoln's first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association loss of the season as the Lions fall to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in league play.  The Broncos improve to 2-9 overall.
 
Cameron Campbell led all scorers with 22 points (6-9 3 FG, 4-5  FT) while Bernard Lightsey added 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3FG) while Jordan Camper chipped in ten points and had two blocks.  Deaquan Williams led the team with nine rebounds.  Zahrion Blue and Tamir Green had three assists apiece.

JaQuel Richmond led the Broncos with 20 points and 7 assists. Joshua Bryant contributed a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Raymon Pratt scored 17 and Nakia Rivers sank 16 points.

Campbell and Lightsey were on fire over the first six minutes, each hitting three three-point field goals as the Lions jumped out to a 20-10 advantage with 13:45 left.  Lincoln still led by eight, 24-16 with 8:22 left in the half.  The Broncos then went on a 15-3 run to take a 31-27 lead with 3:43 left in the period to take a four-point lead 31-27.  Lincoln closed back within one before the Broncos closed out the half with an 8-2 run to lead 41-34 at the break.

The Broncos pushed the lead into double figures early in the second half and held off several Lincoln runs as the half wore on.  Bryant's two free throws with 818 left gave FSU their biggest lead of the night at 14, 69-55.  The Lions responded by producing a 13-2 run to pull within three 71-68 with 5:25 remaining.  Campbell started and finished the run with a three point field goal. The Broncos then scored five straight followed by five straight from the Lions.

After Green sank two free throws with 25 seconds left the Lions forced a turnover and had two chances to tie the score but each time Campbell's three point attempt roll around, and rattled in-and –out

The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 12, 2019 when they face St. Augustine's University.  Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.  in Raleigh, North Carolina.
