Free Throws Sealed the Deal for LC Winning, 85-81 11/21/2018 9:33:00 AM by Blue Bears Sports Information Department SALISBURY, NC - Livingstone College had four players score in double figures and used a late run to outlast visiting Lander University in a men's basketball nonconference game on Tuesday night at New Trent Gym winning 85-81. With 45 seconds remaining Roger Ray hits a deep three pointer, trimming the deficit to 78-74. Ray was then able to score on a driving layup with less than two minutes on the clock cutting the lead 80-78. With 54.4 seconds to go, and a one-point game Lander's Elijah Alston had a put-back from the corner was wiped out by a shot-clock violation. With 3.9 seconds, Ray sank four straight free throws to seal the game. LC's Austin Harris, stole the ball from Lander's Purdie near midcourt as time expired. As a team, LC shot 44.2% from the field (24-of-32) and 31% (5-of-16) from distance. The Blue Bears continued to be efficient from the free throw line, connecting for 18-of-23 attempts for 75% Ray led the way with 22 points while Lydell Elmore had 11. Malik Smith and Damante Mcneill finished with 14 and 11 points. Lander was paced by Purdie's 22 points. . LC takes a holiday break before returning to action Nov. 29 at home against Benedict.
