Bowie State Men’s Basketball Fall in Shootout Versus Glenville State

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Bowie State men's basketball dropped to 0-2 on the early season Saturday (11/10) losing in a shootout to Glenville State by a final score of 118-111.
 
Glenville State (2-0) drilled 14 three-pointers and shot 52.6 percent from the field to earn the victory. Bowie State shot 50 percent from the floor and netted eight three-pointers.
 
Glenville State got off to a hot start as they built an early 10-point lead at 15-5 early in the contest. The Pioneers later stretched it to 15 points at the 15:24 mark on a Davion Johnson layup making it, 20-5.
 
The Pioneers took that hot start while hitting 9-of-14 three's in the first half and built a 15-point halftime lead over the Bulldogs at 57-42. 
 
Bowie State started the second half on a 22-16 run, cutting the Glenville State lead to nine at 73-64 with under 15 minutes to play. The Bulldogs narrowed the gap to seven (77-70) after a layup by Yohance Fleming with 13:01 left in the contest.
 
However, Glenville State answered as the Pioneers went on a 16-10 run and went back up by 13 points at the 8:04 minute mark at 93-80. The Bulldogs tried to make a late push and would cut the Pioneers lead to just three points at 114-111 with just 43 seconds to play.
 
Unfortunately for Bowie State, Glenville State free throws down the stretch made the difference as the Pioneers held on for the non-conference victory.
 
Glenville State finished the game shooting 40 percent beyond the 3-point line, going 14-for-35 while Bowie State shot 36.4 percent from deep, going 8-for-22. The Pioneers won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded the Bulldogs by seven, 46-39.
 
Bowie State was led by Rinardo Perry as he scored a game and career-high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. Juwun Smith scored 20 points for the Bulldogs and Saiquan Jamison was responsible for 14 and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
David Belle and Yohance Fleming netted 13 points each while Cameron Hayes added 10 points.
 
Davion Johnson led Glenville State in scoring with 24 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Jamal Pollydore scored 22 points, Darhius Nunn chipped in with 22 points to go along with a game-high 12 assists in the contest. Phil Bledsoe tallied 21 points and Howard Smith contributed 12 points in the game.
 
The Bulldogs return to the court Wednesday (November 14) at Indiana (Pa.) University for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference tip.
