2016 All-CIAA Football Teams Annoucement


Charlotte, NC (November 8, 2016) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association, releases the 2016 All-CIAA First, Second, and Honorable Mention Football Teams.

Amir Hall (Bowie State), Bryant Frazier (Virginia State), and Will Johnson (Winston-Salem State) highlight the teams as the conference's most outstanding players.

Bowie State University's sophomore quarterback, Amir Hall, has earned Offensive Player of the Year. Hall leads the CIAA in several passing categories including completions (161) and attempts (259) while ranking second in yards per game (305.1). He has proven himself the top quarterback of the conference throwing with 62.2% accuracy for 2,136 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. Out of the ten-week regular season, the Bowie native earned 4 Quarterback of the Week and 1 Rookie of the Week honors. Hall led his Bulldogs team to a Northern Division Title and will appear in the 2016 CIAA Football Championship.

CIAA Defensive Player of the Year has been awarded to Bryant Frazier, senior defensive lineman at Virginia State University. Frazier finished the season ranked second in the conference with 10 sacks for 48 yards. He tallied 29 total tackles, including 22 solo tackles. The Glen Allen, Virginia native earned CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week on two occasions this season.

Will Johnson, Winston-Salem State University senior punter/kicker, has been named Special Teams Player of the Year. Johnson scored 68 points for the Rams this season, completing 11-20 (55%) field goal and 35-37 (95%) extra point attempts. He stood back to punt 43 times for 1,638 yards, holding the opposing returner within the 20-yard marker 9 times. Johnson and the Rams have secured the Southern Division Title and will compete in the 2016 CIAA Football Championship.

On Saturday, November 12 the Rams of Winston-Salem State will take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State for the 2016 CIAA Football Championship title. The contest, a repeat of last year's championship between the Rams and Bulldogs, will kick off at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia. Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster. The game will broadcast live via the ASPiRE TV Network.
