The CIAA Announces 2012 All-Conference Football Team and Players of the Year
Hampton, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, in conjunction with the CIAA Football Coaches' Association, is proud to release this season's honorees for the All-CIAA Football First and Second Teams and Players of the Year.
This year's All-Conference team is led by Offensive Player of the Year, Kameron Smith of the #2 Winston-Salem State University Rams. Smith starts at the quarterback position and has completed 170 of 280 pass attempts (60.7%, 2710 yds.) and leads the conference with 37 total touchdown passes for the Rams.
Defensive Player of the Year, Carlos Fields, Jr. also represents #2 Winston-Salem State University Rams, where he has finished the season with 69 total tackles (38 solo, 31 assisted) and six tackles-for-loss for nineteen yards. Fields, as captain, has led his Rams to the number one total defense in the conference averaging 279.8 yards per game.
Saint Augustine's University's Tyron Laughinghouse is Special Teams Player of the Year. Laughinghouse leads the conference for total yards in both the Punt and Kick Returns category with a total of 14 kick returns for 562 yards and 12 for 184 yds. on punt returns with a total of four touchdowns.
The Players of the Year and All-Conference First team will be formally recognized at the CIAA Football Championship Luncheon on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley. This event begins at 12:00pm and is by invitation only.
