Lawrence “Peaches” Coleman, a Fort Valley, Ga. native, spent most of his time at St. Augustine’s University as the men’s golf head coach. His teams at St. Augustine’s University excelled nationally, especially during the years 1990 through 1994 when the Falcons captured five PGA National Minority Golf Championships. As a result of the numerous championships, the Falcons earned a trip to the White House to visit the President of the United States. Coleman’s teams also won six CIAA conference titles. Coleman was instrumental in starting the PGA National Minority Golf Championship, and as a result was inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame in 2002.
