CIAA Hall of Fame Members
Larry Rose, a Hampton Institute alumnus, played collegiate football and baseball for the Pirates. Under the leadership of the late Dr. I.T. Morehead, Rose found his career officiating intramural games as a student. In 1976, he began officiating collegiate games and continued for 16 years. During those years, he officiated 11 CIAA basketball tournaments and 19 NCAA Division I tournaments. He has served stints as the supervisor of officials for the CIAA and MEAC. He has received the College Men's Basketball Official of the Year award and in 2003 the Naismith Award. He was the first African American to officiate an ACC tournament championship game.
