CIAA Hall of Fame Members
Dr. Edward McLean, upon his retirement, was the CIAA’s longest tenured Athletics Director with over twenty years of contributing leadership. In 1993, McLean joined the CIAA as the Athletics Director of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU); a position which he is recognized for strengthening athletics programs and positioning ECSU’s athletics teams competitively within the CIAA and NCAA Division II. After thirteen years with the Vikings, McLean became the Athletics Director at Fayetteville State University (FSU). In each of his seven years, the Broncos won at least one conference championship with a total of 13 CIAA championship trophies. McLean recognized academic success of his student-athletes as a high priority and proved successful averaging a 60% graduation rate at Fayetteville State. In addition to his work at the institutional level, he has held positions within the NCAA Division II and CIAA Conference, including CIAA Conference President, CIAA Athletics Director Association President and Secretary, and CIAA Vice President at conference and division levels. Prior to his retirement in 2015, McLean was recognized for his outstanding service with the CIAA Jeanette E. Lee Award (2014). McLean has also been honored twice as the CIAA Athletic Director of the Year (1996-1997 and 2004-2005).
