Lincoln University women's cross country team opened their 2017 season on Saturday with a fifth place finish at the Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Lions finished with 122 points, 21 behind fourth place Rutgers-Camden. Host Wilmington University won the meet with 30 points.
Senior Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del. /Brandywine) was the Lions top finisher, placing 19th overall with a time of 25:47.63, taking nearly three minutes off her 2016 time at this event. Amanda Okodugha (Norrkoping, Sweden/ Hagagymnasiet (Young Harris)) made her collegiate debut and was Lincoln's second finisher, crossing the line in 26:39.03 and placing 23rd overall.
Bianca Kennedy (Hamden, Conn./ Hamden) and Sydney Anderson (Williamstown, N.J. /Williamstown) were the Lions next two finishers, placing 26th and 28th overall respectively. Kennedy finished in 28:38.02 while Anderson crossed the line in 28:57.05. Kennedy was making her collegiate cross country debut.
Two freshmen, Paige Harris (Bowie, Md. /Laurel) and Jerneice Morton (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) also made their collegiate debuts and rounded out the Lincoln competitors. Harris was 29th overall with a time of 29:03 while Morton was 31st with a time of 31:41.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, September 9, 2017 when they compete at the Philadelphia Metro Championship at historic Belmont Plateau. Race time is 12:15 p.m.
