Cary, NC… The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held on, Thursday, October 18 at Wake Med Soccer Park- Cross Country Course, Cary, North Carolina. The women’s 5K run begins at 10:00am followed by the men’s 8K at 11:00am.  Awards presentations for both championship events will be held immediately following the race. This championship is free and open to the public.

Respective 2011 men’s and women’s championship squads, the Shaw University Bears and Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams, will return to Cary in search of repeat and three-peat performances.  Last year, the Bears celebrated their first-ever Men’s Championship title, while the Lady Rams recaptured their title for the second women’s championship in the sport for WSSU. 

Darius Berry leads the Shaw Bears with a CIAA Top 10 time of 17:04.19; on the women’s side, the Lady Rams enter this championship event with three runners ranked in the CIAA’s Top 10; JauShaunna Kelly (19:29.71), Aquila Jones (19:54.17) and Kristy Baptiste (20:01.09).
