September 12, 2008

Virginia State University's Jenna Arnold ran the fastest five-kilometer race in VSU history when she led the Lady Trojans to an 18-40 win over Virginia Union University on Wednesday at Bryan Park in Richmond, Va.

Arnold, a freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., ran the five-kilometer course in 19:12.6, besting the old VSU record by 16 seconds. The previous VSU record for five-kilometers was 19:28, set by Shylan Scott in 2000.

Arnold's time was also a course record for the Bryan Park course.

VSU, as a team, captured four of the top five spots in the race.

Raphaela Garris was third with a time of 21:33.0, Shayla Szabo was fourth in 22:37.7, Charlene Hymon was fifth at 23:32.4 and Ocha Crenshaw was sixth at 23:38. Faith Brock finished seventh with a time of 24:20.
