Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University women's and men's cross country teams participated in the Monarch Cross Country Classic hosted by Methodist University on Saturday, September 17th. The women's team finished sixth in a field of seven, while the men's team only had individual times.
In the women's 5k race, FSU scoring was led by junior Sarah Mastin, who finished with a time of 30:15.39; she was 24th out of 59 runners. Senior Ivory Gladden (Greensboro, NC) completed the course not far behind, posting a time of 31:26.33 and finished 28th, while senior Vernessa Hinnant (Selma, NC) posted a time of 36:50.04 (44th place).
The other runners for the Lady Broncos were Tiashana Morris (38:54.82), placing 47th, sophomore Kayla Phifer (Greensboro, NC) finishing 55th with a time of 43:15.17 and junior Kyera Coleman (43:15.80) in 56th. FSU had a total time of 3:00:41.75 with 154 points.
Representing the Bronco men's squad in the 9200 meter run (8k) were four student-athletes. Sophomore Richard Prudente-Bernal (Fayetteville, NC) was the first Fayetteville State runner to receive points, pacing FSU with a time of 33:14.14 and 17th overall. The junior trio of Collin Nordan (39:24.04), Darian Stanton (40:50.70) and Tresor Dlan (46:34.02) placed 30th, 31st and 33rd overall, respectively.
Host Methodist won the women's event with 33 points and Francis Marion claimed the men's title with 31 points.
Both Fayetteville State cross country teams return to action on Saturday, September 24th in the 32nd Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational. Race time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, NC.
