PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Bowie State University women and men's cross country teams participated in the Cappy Anderson Invitational on Saturday (9/17) hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The women had the best success, finishing 6th while the men placed 8th overall.
In the women's 5K, Bowie State scoring was led by sophomore Kayla Tucker, who finished with a time of 22:16.23 which was good for 17th out of 53 runners. Freshman Zuwena Johnson completed the course not far behind, posting a time of 23:26.65 and finished 24th and freshman Kayla Wright posted a time of 23:48.59 (26th place). The other runners for the Lady Bulldogs were freshmen Kennedeigh Hairston (27:16.42), placing 39th and Krystal Simpson (27:22.43) in 50th.
Representing the Bulldog men in the 9200 meter run were three freshmen and three sophomores. Freshman Kevin Glasper was the first Bowie State runner to receive points, pacing the Bulldogs with a time of 36:02.64 and 31st overall. Sophomores Robert Thomas (37:48.88), DeAndre Watson (42:58.03) and Robert Day (48:43.28) placed 38th, 45th and 48th overall respectively. Freshmen Frank Bailey and Jonathan Simmons rounded out the Bowie State men's scorers with times of 1:01:15.81 and 1:01:22.24 respectively.
Host UMES won the Women's event with 27 points and Navy claimed the men's title with 20 points.
The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs next competition date is Saturday (October 1) at George Mason University.
