Murfeesboro, NC – The Chowan Volleyball team continues their run in the CIAA Northern Division with a straight sets victory over Lincoln (Pa.) at home on Monday evening.

Kayla Gates posted 13 kills on the evening to lead the Hawks. Sydney Hiner chipped in with seven kills. Breona Young and Courtney O'Keefe tallied six kills each. Young tallied four total kills with two solos and two assisted blocks.
The team hit .294 evening including a .409 hitting percentage in the opening set.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two attacking errors by the Hawks to open the match, Chowan rattled off eight straight points to force a timeout by the Lions. Kayla Gates tallied three straight kills to lead 8-2.
Courtney O'Keefe and Sydney Hiner posted a kill apiece to double up Lincoln, 10-5. The Lions roared back to close the gap to 10-9 before evening the set at 12-all. Breona Young and Kayla Gates posted a kill to give the Hawks a cushion.
Back-to-back kills by Kayla Gates pushed the lead to 19-13. The Hawks found the final five points of the set as Raven Finley-Flowers and Sydney Hiner grabbed kills off passes from Michaela Worthington, 25-16.
Michaela Worthington pushed the advantage to 8-5 with a service ace. Lincoln rallied back to even the set at 9-all.
A six point run for the Hawks sparked by two kills by Milica Vejnovic allowed the Hawks to lead 15-9. Megan Mutter notched two service aces and a kill by Sydney Hiner and Kayla Gates pushed the lead to 22-13.
Chowan continues their homestand as the Hawks host CIAA Northern Division foe, Elizabeth City State, on Friday, October 12. First serve is at 6pm.
