Hawks Volleyball Wins Home Opener Against BSU

Murfeesboro, NC – In the first home match of the season, the Chowan Volleyball team picked up the win against the visiting Bowie State Bulldogs in straights sets on Sunday afternoon.

Milica Vejnovic and Courtney O'Keefe registered double-digit kills in the match with 12 and 11 respectively.  Vejnovic tallied three service aces, while O'Keefe notched two solo blocks.

Micayla Pope posted 32 assists on the afternoon.  Alyssa Born tallied 13 digs to pace the defense.


First Set:

Chowan and Bowie State swapped points with Milica VejnovicBreona Young, and Sydney Hiner posted kills early.

The Bulldogs led 11-8 early to force a timeout.  Chowan battled back to take the lead 16-15 with a Courtney O'Keefe kill.

Both teams would continue to swap points in the set until Sydney Hiner evened the match at 24-all before two errors by the Bulldogs handed the set to the Hawks 26-24.

Second Set:

Chowan fell behind 7-3 early before Courtney O'Keefe and Milica Vejnovic teamed up to trim the deficit to 12-10.

Milica Vejnovic continued to swing to put the Hawks up 19-18.  Micayla Pope served up an ace along with two errors by the Bulldogs allowed the Hawks to take the set 25-21.

Third Set:

The Hawks opened the set with an 8-3 lead as Milica Vejnovic started off the set with a pair of kills.

Bowie State rallied to close the gap to 12-9.  Kayla Gates ended the run with a kill.  Courtney O'Keefe notched two kills to push to lead 20-13.  Milica Vejnovic served up an ace to propel the set.

Breona Young put the final kill down for the Hawks to take the set 25-15.


Chowan continues their short homestand as the Hawks take on Lincoln (Pa.) on Monday, October 8.  First serve is at 6pm.
