Raleigh, NC (Oct. 11) – The Saint Augustine's University volleyball team will host Shaw University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. Admission is free to the match between crosstown rivals.
The Lady Falcons (4-6 CIAA, 4-6 overall) are seeking their fourth win in their last six matches. They are led by outside hitter Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados), who is among the nation's Division II leaders in kills, and libero Zoey Isom (Jr./Phoenix, AZ). Hall leads the CIAA in kills per set (5.59) and total kills (179), and Isom ranks third in the conference in digs per set (4.09). Setter Taylor Irving (Fr./Litchfield, AZ) ranks second in the CIAA in assists per set (7.35) and fifth in service aces per set (0.55).
The Lady Falcons, currently fifth in the Southern Division at 1-3, need a win to stay in contention for a postseason bid to the CIAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 17-19 in Ettrick, Va. The top four teams in the Southern Division qualify for the tournament. The Lady Falcons are one game behind fourth-place Johnson C. Smith University.
Middle hitter Saraya Klink and outside hitter Kelly Murphy pace the Lady Bears, who are in a three-way tie for first in the Southern Division at 3-1. Klink ranks fourth in the CIAA in kills per set (2.61), third in total kills (172), second in hitting percentage (.342) and fifth in blocks per set (0.88). Murphy ranks 10th in the conference in kills per set (2.24) and digs per set (3.24) and first in total service aces (43). Libero Tiffany Brooks ranks second in the CIAA in digs per set (4.17) and first in total digs (275), and setter Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez is tied for third in assists per set (6.10).
The Lady Falcons are coming off a four-set road win over Livingstone College on Monday, Oct. 9. The Lady Bears (9-1 CIAA, 17-3 overall) lost to Fayetteville State University in three sets on the road the same night, snapping a 13-match win streak. This is the first of two regular-season meetings between both teams.
After the match against Shaw, the Lady Falcons will host Johnson C. Smith University on Monday, Oct. 16. The match starts at 6 p.m.
