2016 All-CIAA Tennis Teams; Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year Announced

Charlotte, NC (April 27, 2016) - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), along with its Tennis Coaches Association, announces the 2016 Women's & Men's All-Conference Teams, All-Rookie Team, Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Ana Ruzier, a senior student-athlete from Croatia, has been named CIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year.  She is atop the Shaw University women's tennis team and went undefeated in singles matches this season (13-0 CIAA; 18-0 Overall).  Ruzier is also without a loss in CIAA doubles matches (18-0) and has been defeated only three times in overall doubles (15-3).

Freshman Sydney Yao of Virginia State University earns the CIAA Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year honor.  An Alexandria, VA native, Yao is ranked VSU's top women's tennis student-athlete with an impressive 4-1 CIAA/Overall singles record and 10-1 CIAA/Overall doubles record. 

Shaw University Head Coach Sunday Enitan has been named CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after securing the Southern Division Champion Title.  The defending champion Lady Bears went undefeated at 8-0 in divisional play, 12-1 in conference play, and 16-2 overall.  Coach Enitan and his athletes will look to bring home Shaw's eighth championship trophy in the 2016 tournament.

Anthony Michael, a senior student-athlete from Nigeria, has been named CIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Year.  Ranked #1 on the Virginia Union University team, Michael is 5-2 in CIAA singles matches (9-2 overall) and 5-3 in conference doubles (9-3 overall).

Virgina State's top tennis player, freshman Sultan Kenes, earns the CIAA Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year.  Kenes posted a 5-3 conference singles record (9-4 overall) and 2-6 record in CIAA doubles matches (4-9 overall).

CIAA Men's Tennis Coach of the Year Chris Stambaugh and the Regular Season Champion Chowan Hawks went undefeated 8-0 in conference matchups (18-6 overall).  This season, Stambaugh and the Hawks will look to secure Chowan's first-ever men's tennis title after finishing runner-up to Shaw in the 2015 Tennis Tournament.
