Both WSSU Tennis Teams Earn Bids in NCAA Division II
National Championship Tournament
#7 Lady Rams to face Indiana (Pa.); #5 Rams earn at-large bid
to face #4 Bluefield State

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The stellar seasons for Winston-Salem
State Rams and Lady Rams tennis will continue as both teams will
take part in the 2011 NCAA Division II Men’s and
Women’s Tennis National Championship Tournaments. The Lady
Rams earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the
Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship
while the Rams earned an at-large bid after ranking fifth in the
NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
The Lady Rams will head to Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania., the host
school of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional women’s
tennis tournaments May 1-2 or May 2-3. The Lady Rams will compete
in the Atlantic #2 regional tournament and will face the Indiana
(Pa.) Crimson Hawks in a noon match, Sunday. The match will be the
first appearance in the NCAA Division II Women’s National
Championship tournament.
The Rams will head to Raleigh, N.C. to take in the Atlantic Region
#1 tournament where the fifth-seeded Rams will take on the
fourth-seeded Bluefield State Blues. The two teams met earlier in
the season with the Rams taking a 5-2 road loss to the Blues.
However, dates and times for the Rams’ regional matches have
not been announced yet.
