FSU ATHLETICS TO HOST A SECOND TOURNEY FOR THE CAROLINA REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - On Saturday, January 19, 2008, The Fayetteville State University Athletics Department will host a second volleyball tourney for the Carolina Regional Volleyball Association. Felton J. Capel Arena will be the competition site for Carolina Region/USAV "Junior Girl's 14 Platinum" Tournament. Tourney play will begin at 9:00 am with pool play. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Carolina Region is a sub-division of the United States Volleyball Association (USVBA). USA Volleyball (USAV) is the national governing body for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is recognized as such by the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
Attendance of 300 is expected for the tournament. "This translates to an economic Impact of $68,400, " says John Meroski, FACVB President and CEO. "Kudos to FSU for bringing events home to Fayetteville."
Fayetteville State hosted its first tourney January 5, 2008 in Capel Arena. Pool play consisted of ten teams of the Carolina Region/USAV Junior Girl's 14 Copper Tournament. Coaches and staff members of the athletic department assisted in the operation of the tourney.
"It is a pleasure for us to host our second round of tourneys. We take pride in strengthening our relationship with the local community and region and look forward to opportunities to serve future students of Fayetteville State University", states Dr. Edward McLean, FSU Athletic Director.
"In 20 plus years of playing and coaching in local and National Tourneys, I have never had as pleasant an experience as our WWVC Xtreme 14 team had at FSU on Saturday.
They were organized, prepared and ran an efficient tourney. Their facility is amazing, and they even had food for coaches and officials. It was AWESOME!!!!" commented Coach Steven Siegel of the AXA Advisors
"We (Brick City Sparkz) played in the copper tournament at Fayetteville State University this weekend. It was the best tournament we have been to yet. They were organized and inviting. They really made us feel like they wanted us there," stated Dal Langston.
