BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University women and men’s track and field teams combined for 14 first place finishes in its own Bulldogs Classic / Alumni Invitational on Saturday (April 8). Invited teams were Coppin State, Lincoln (PA), Prince George’s Community College and several other track clubs. Bowie State’s women and men placed first overall as a team with 135 and 176 points respectively.
Kayla Tucker, Kennedeigh Hairston, De’Sha Manigo and Alicia Grant had individual first place finishes for the women while Robert Thomas, Bashir Lamptey, Tony Doublin, Vidal Adams and William Edmonds recorded first place finishes for the Bulldog men.
Simpson recorded a time of 12.30 in the 200 meter and Tucker crossed the finish line at 58.71 in the 400 meter. Hairston claimed the top spot in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:38.64
De’Sha Manigo and Alicia Grant participated in the discus and javelin respectively recording throws of 37.39m and 35.42m. Manigo also had a second place finish in the women’s shot put.
As a team, Bowie State’s women captured first in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.08 and placed first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:11.95.
On the men’s side, Thomas placed first in the 400 meter, clocking in at 52.31 and won the 400 hurdles (57.29). Lamptey competed in the 110 hurdles and claimed first at 15.49.
Bowie State had four field event first place finishes. Doublin was first in the pole vault (2.44m) and in the triple jump (13.45m). Adams placed first in the long jump (6.85m) and Edmond won the shot put (12.48m).
The Bulldogs 4x100 meter relay team captured first place with a time of 44.09. Bowie State’s 4x400 meter relay team claimed second with a time of 3:38.44.
Bowie State’s women and men’s track and field teams return to competition on Saturday (April 15th) at the Towson University Invitational.
