Falcons Win Four Track and Field Regional Awards

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored Head Coach George Williams, Assistant Coach Andrea Giscombe and student-athletes Joe Kindred and Barbara Pierre of Saint Augustine's College along with 60 other regional award winners, on the eve of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Track and Field Championships, which started Thursday (May 22) in Walnut, Calif.

Williams was named Southeast Region Men's Head Coach of the Year for producing another national contender and directing the Falcons to the 2008 CIAA outdoor title. The Falcons qualified 26 student-athletes in individual events and two relay teams in outdoor nationals.

Giscombe was selected Southeast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for directing the Lady Falcons to the 2008 CIAA outdoor title. The Lady Falcons qualified eight student-athletes and two relay teams for the outdoor nationals.

Kindred was chosen Southeast Region Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Year for a stellar outdoor season. He was named most outstanding men's field performer at the 2008 CIAA Outdoor Championships after winning the long jump and high jump and placing third in the triple jump. Kindred entered outdoor nationals with the best long jump (25-5 ¼) and high jump (7-2 ½) in the nation.

Pierre was named Southeast Region Women's Track Student-Athlete of the Year for an outstanding outdoor season. She was named most outstanding women's track performer at the 2008 CIAA Outdoor Championships after winning the 100, 200 and helping the Lady Falcons win the 4x100 relay. The defending national 100 champion, Pierre is the top seed in the 100 with a national-best time of 11.45 and the fifth seed in the 200.
