NCCU WINS 16 EVENTS DURING L.T. WALKER TRACK AND FIELD INVITATIONAL

DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University won 16 of 31 events and posted 41 top three performances during the 16th running of the LeRoy T. Walker Outdoor Track and Field Invitational on a warm Saturday at NCCU in Durham, N.C.
The NCCU men claimed 11 victories in 16 events, while the NCCU and Bowie State University women earned five wins each to lead the invitational field, which also included Shaw University, Saint Augustine's College, Saint Paul's College, Livingstone College, Fayetteville State University, Johnson C. Smith University and the University of the District of Columbia.
Mark Davis and Eric Smalls won two field events apiece for NCCU. Davis broke a 10-year-old meet record in the long jump (7.48 meters/24 feet, 6.5 inches), then captured the high jump (2.05m/6' 8.75"). Smalls won the discus throw (46.60m/152' 11") and the shot put (15.19m/49' 10").
NCCU rookie Karjuan Williams recorded the meet's fastest 400-meter dash time in 14 years, winning in 47.01 seconds. Williams then joined Brian Hope, Omar Robinson and Brandon Jones to break the meet record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:11.93. Jones was also a winner in the 800m run (1:54.21).
NCCU sophomore Jessica Mills set a new meet standard in the triple jump with a leap of 12.53 meters (41' 1.5"), while placing second in the long jump (5.62m/18' 5.25").
The NCCU women's 4x400m relay squad, consisting of Kellie Dunston, Ambria Alexander, Sheldonia Simmers and Caprice Church, ran to victory with a time of 3:54.92.
Other NCCU event winners were Jamie Brown in the women's shot put (12.34m), Desinia Johnson in the women's 1500m run (4:53.40), Shareef Muhammad in the men's 400m hurdles (53.26), Carrington Queen in the men's 110m hurdles (15.17), Chanel Raynor in the women's discus throw (37.17m), and Will Scott in the men's triple jump (15.28m).
