Raleigh, NC (Jan. 11) – The internationally-renowned Saint Augustine’s University track and field program will make an appearance in Staten Island, NY, on Friday, Jan. 12, when the Falcons and Lady Falcons compete in the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The meet begins at 12 p.m.
Approximately 2,000 male and female Division I, II and III student-athletes from schools in California, North Carolina and the Northeast will participate in the meet. Click LIVE RESULTS and LIVE VIDEO to follow the action.
After their meet in New York, the Falcons and Lady Falcons will compete in the HBCU Invitational in Winston-Salem, NC, on Jan. 15.
The Falcons’ men are led by sprinter Dontarian Evans (Jr./Gainesville, FL) and All-American triple jumper Jumonne Exeter (Sr./St. Vincent). Evans ranks first nationally in Division II in the 200-meter dash (21.48) and Exeter ranks third in the triple jump (49-10.5). Kirvano Handfield (Jr./Turks and Caicos Islands) is tied for fifth nationally in the high jump (6-10.75).
The Lady Falcons are paced by Shannon Kalawan (So./Westmoreland, Jamaica) and the 4x400-meter relay squad. Kalawan ranks third in the 400-meter dash (56.17) and she anchors the second-ranked 4x400 relay team (3:46.63) which includes Marissa Gale (Sr./Trinidad & Tobago) and All-Americans Iris Robinson (Sr./Birmingham, AL) and Ade Hunter (Sr./Philadelphia, PA).
The SAU track and field program has won 39 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s national titles during the indoor and outdoor seasons under legendary Head Coach George Williams, who has won the most NCAA track and field championships of any coach, regardless of division.
