by Falcons Sports Information Department

Raleigh, NC (April 11) – Attempting to stay atop the division, Saint Augustine's University will take on Livingstone College in a CIAA softball doubleheader in Salisbury, N.C., on Thursday, April 12. Game times are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the Jaycee Optimist Sports Complex.

The Lady Falcons currently lead the Southern Division with a 2-0 mark. They are 6-2 in the CIAA and 9-7 overall. The Lady Blue Bears are winless in 14 games including a 0-7 mark in the conference and a 0-2 record in the division.

In their division opener, the Lady Falcons defeated Johnson C. Smith University 10-2 and 9-7 in Charlotte, N.C., on April 6. They have won seven of their last nine games after starting the season 2-5.

The key to the Lady Falcons' surge has been the play of several student-athletes. CIAA Pitcher of the Week MaKayla August (So./Palm Springs, CA) ranks fourth in the conference in batting average (.451) and fifth in earned run average (3.92) and pitching wins (6). August ranks third nationally in Division II in doubles per game.

Jasmine Rios (Sr./Greensboro, NC) and Mechelle Moss (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) are tied for second nationally in Division II in triples per game, and Marley Parker (Sr./Langley, British Columbia) ranks 14th in the nation in triples per game. Parker ranks 21st nationally in toughest to strike out.

As a team, the Lady Falcons are one of the top hitting squads in the country. They rank first in Division II in triples per game and sixth in doubles per game.

After playing Livingstone, the Lady Falcons face archrival Shaw University in a doubleheader at Worthdale Park in Raleigh, NC, on Saturday, April 14.
