Rain Washes Out CIAA Softball Championships Play On Saturday

PETERSBURG, VA– For the second consecutive day, rain has washed out the hopes of playing the final semifinal and championship games of the 2006 CIAA Softball Championships from Petersburg, VA. Officials have announced, weather permitting, that the games will be played, starting at 12:00 PM, on Sunday, April 23, 2006.
Despite the rainy conditions, the table has been set for the 2006 CIAA Women's Softball Championship title-game as the unbeaten North Carolina Central University Lead Eagles will take on the winner of the Winston-Salem State/Bowie State game on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM from the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. The Lady Eagles opponent will be either the Lady Rams or Lady Bulldogs and will be decided in a 12:00 PM semifinal game to be held on Sunday morning.
The Lady Eagles are in complete control of their own destiny as they sit in the Championship Game unbeaten and on the verge of yet another CIAA softball title. Their opponent, either the Lady Rams or Lady Bulldogs, will be fresh off of a pair of consolation-bracket wins and faces the most daunting of tasks as they need to defeat NCCU twice to capture the double-elimination format championship.
Day two action (Thursday) saw the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University defeat Virginia State University 3-1, and defeat Elizabeth City State University 9-1 as WSSU eliminated both teams, setting up a match-up with Bowie State University for the right to face North Carolina Central in the title game.
The contest between BSU and WSSU, slated for 5:30 PM Friday was washed out due to heavy rains and was again washed out on Saturday and will now be help on Sunday morning at 12:00 PM (weather permitting)
