Hawks Compete in Christopher Newport Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Chowan University men's cross country team competed in the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks finished in third place in the non-Division I portion of the meet with a team score of 64.   Christopher Newport University captured first place honors after recording a perfect score of 15. 

Elizabeth City State University edged Chowan by three points (61), finishing in second place in the three-team field. 

Kevin Taylor led the effort for the Hawks.  He crossed the line at the 31:48 mark and in 31st place in the 39-runner field.  George Kattan followed in 32nd place individually.  He completed the 8k course in 32:50.  Sadiq Amzat finished in third place for Chowan.  He crossed the finish line in 34th place individually with a time of 36:01. 

Jaylen Gilliam and Hank Edmonds rounded out the scoring for Chowan.  The duo finished in 38th and 39th place, respectively.  Gilliam posted a time of 38:13 followed by Edmonds who finished at the 47:39 mark. 

Saturday's meet concluded the regular season for the Hawks.  Chowan returns to action on October 27th as the Hawks travel to Richmond, Virginia to compete in the CIAA Championship held at Joseph Bryan Park.
