Hawks Battle in HBCU Challenge

CARY, NC- The Chowan University men's cross country team battled for a 13th place finish on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks competed in the HBCU Challenge as part of the Great American Cross Country Festival  in a 16-team field.  Chowan posted a team score of 341.  North Carolina A&T State University took home first place honors with a team score of 47.  Trey Simons of Morehouse College finished in first place individually in the 115-runner field with a winning time of 24:47. 

Kevin Taylor paced the Hawks on Saturday.  He trekked the 8k course in 30:11 and in 35th place individually.  George Kattan crossed the finish line at the 33:54 mark and in 67
th place.  Jaylen Gilliam and Sadiq Amzat followed with times of 34:57 and 35:51, respectively.  Gilliam finished in 73rd place with Amzat finishing 82nd.  Johnathan Venablerounded out the scoring for the Chowan Blue and White.  He posted a time of 36:36 and in 84th place individually.

The Hawks hit the course again on October 7th as Chowan travels to compete in the Blue Bear Invitational hosted by Livingstone College.
