SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams cross country teams got their seasons underway, Saturday morning when they took part in the Catawba Chick-fil-A XC Invitational. The Rams men's and women's cross country teams both saw some impressive performances as the Rams women placed fifth at the meet while the men placed eighth.
The Rams women's cross country team saw some solid performances in their first meet of the season. WSSU sophomore Domtilla Kiplagat led the way when she placed fourth in the women's 5K run with a 20:30.42. Senior Fawzia Kher added a 22:40.67 to place 25th while senior Tametris Morrison ran a 22:51.61 to place 26th.
The Rams men's cross country team also saw some solid efforts. Freshman Mitchell Brown led the way for the Rams, placing 18th in the men's 8K run with a 29:50.43 while junior Harold Blakely placed 43rd with a 35:02.12. Junior Julian Massey rounded out the WSSU top three finishers with a 36:31.81 to place 47th.
The Rams men's and women's cross country teams will both return to action, next Friday when the teams compete in the Bulldog Cross Country Invitational hosted by Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina.
