Rain Forces Postponement Of CIAA Tennis Championships; Officials Try To Move Indoors

PETERSBURG, VA– Heavy rains in the Petersburg, VA area have forced the postponement of the 2006 CIAA Men’s and Women’s tennis championships for the second consecutive day. CIAA Officials announced that they will try to move the championships to an indoor facility if one can be secured.
The 2006 Championship was halted on Friday afternoon in the middle of the men’s first, second and third singles finals. Championship oirganizers slated a return to the courts on Saturday morning at 9:00 AMbut saw their plans dashed as rain again started to fall.
Tournament organizers are trying to secure indoor tennis facilities, and if able to do so, the Championships will resume, indoors, at 5:00 PMon Saturday evening. If indoor facilities are unable to be secured, all singles matches are slated to return to action on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM, weather permitting.
