Chowan Men's Basketball Hangs on to Beat Elizabeth City State University

MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University men's basketball team clawed their way to a 79-77 conference win over Elizabeth City State University on Saturday night. The Hawks continued their home win streak with the victory, running it to nine wins on Bob Burke Court. Saturday's win marks the team's first CIAA Northern Division win.

The Hawks held off a late comeback by the Vikings to extend their win streak to two in a row. Marco Haskins paced the Hawks with 21 points. Haskins hit for 4-7 from three point land and 8-13 from the floor in the game.

Along with Haskins' team-high 21 points, Carlos Arroyo scored 14 points in the win. Joe Goodwin and Jeremy Smith contributed 13 and 12 points respectively.  Smith compiled the games only double-double with 11 rebounds to go with his 12 points.

Leading the Vikings was Jordan Jones. Jones recorded 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds while John Maynor scored 16 points in the game.

The Hawks used several free throws late in the game to keep the game out of reach for the Vikings.

Chowan improved to a 10- 3 overall and 4-1 in league competition. Elizabeth City fell to 1-12 on the season and 0-5 in CIAA play.

Chowan will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to face Winston-Salem State University on Monday, January 16th in a make-up game from last weekend's cancelations. Tip-off is slated for 3:00pm.
