USC-Aiken Downs Chowan

AIKEN, SC - The Chowan University men's basketball team suffered an 82-73 setback against USC-Aiken on Saturday evening.  The Hawks move to 4-2 on the season with the loss with the Trojans improving to 5-1 on the year with the win.

Carlos Arroyo led the effort for Chowan with 17 points in the loss.  Jeremy Smith added 16 points for the Chowan Blue and White along with a team-high 10 rebounds (two offensive, eight defensive).  Kevin Kuteyi recorded 16 points with Marco Haskins adding 10 points. 

Jalin Barnes scored a game-high 25 points for USC-Aiken with Mark Matthews and Christian Nobles adding 14 points apiece in the victory.  Matthews hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds (four offensive, eight defensive) in the contest.

The Hawks and Trojans traded baskets at the start of the contest.  The first half featured seven ties before USC-Aiken pulled away 43-35 heading into halftime.

Chowan was unable to overcome the deficit in the second half.  The Trojans raced to a 13-7 run to pull away 56-42 at the 16:31 mark.  USC-Aiken led by as many as 21 points (63-42) before closing out the contest with the 82-73 win.

The Hawks return to action on December 13th when Chowan opens CIAA play against Fayetteville State University.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm in the Helms Center.
